Hey, kinda unrelated, but whats the deal with deskjet on the album by yonlu? Its a little out of place listening to the samples on itunes.

firstly I had no idea that the yonlu album was a proper release, I take it it's a collection of his unfinished work/demos? Secondly I had no idea I was on this release, I certainly wasn't approached by anyone about it...

Yonlu was a brazilian lad I used to speak to quite a lot online, we met through a videogaming forum and became friends for a few years - he began to learn to play the guitar and sing, and used to send me demos of tracks he was working on over msn which he later put up on his blog (the lone cannoneer). 'Deskjet' is a song he made from the sounds of a HP deskjet printer, the remix I did is an early Sabrepulse track - there are only a few cd copies + artwork of the handmade 'single' which he made and sent to me.

Yonlu took his own life in 2006 for reasons which I still really don't know, a tragic waste of talent and life.

A few of my records are dedicated to him, ('verao' is goodbye in brazilian for example), he provides the voice sample at the start of 'purple haze' and the original cover for 'chipbreak wars' was handpainted by him.

RIP yonlu x

That was interesting to read, always nice to understand a bit more behind albums/songs you really enjoyed.

I love the intro to purple haze. Is Yonlu talking about a gameboy light?

Dear Ash,

I am Portuguese and I am afraid to say that "verao", which is actually spelled "verĂ£o", does not mean "goodbye" but rather "summer".

I am sorry for being the bearer for bad news!

Best regards.

i agree with frostbite. it's always interesting to know the story behind an album or a song.

the yonlu album is to be released on april 14 through a label called luaka bop. sounds like it's definately worth the buy
