I've got Macbook Pro lust again, it comes on every few years and I usually come to my senses and buy something else. Recent issues with the netbook, getting on really well with the iphone and actually having the money for one this time are all giving me reasons to go mac.
The 13" looks pretty perfect for performing/spare time in airports. What to do, hmm?

macs are good, but good freeware vsts are impossible to find for it..
Dooo it! I have an MBP and it's great. Plus the new ones look AMAZING(haven't played with one yet, I have one from '08). If you miss Windows too much just get Parallels or any of the other crossovers.
The battery life is awesome, but it only has one audio jack, combined input and output. Pretty stupid if you wanna use a headset or just record while monitoring. Otherwise its nice looking and you can always run windows on it. The firewire port is a 9-pin (??) that requires an adapter in most cases.
Personally I wouldn't buy such an expensive machine. I have an Early 2008 MacBook White that I got second-hand for like.. 429£ and I run Windows 7.
Yeah freeware VST-plugins is a big issue if running OSX. Wouldn't recommend Parallels or anything else that involves emulation. Bootcamp is made by Apple and works really really good.
The audio port issue isn't one really, as I only record through external sound interfaces, and the 9pin firewire is on there to accomodate pro audio/video hardware.
To be honest Ash, the audio out is a bollocks excuse and so is the VST's - I use Ableton Live which actually uses normal VST's like the ones from PC so you can move 'em all over.
As for audio, just use the firewire on it...?! I use mine, 8 out puts mono, with external effects and it's served me well.
Andy you can't use windows VSTS on a mac - some instruments/plugins are universal, or have two installs for each platform, but i'm pretty sure it's impossible to drop say, the instajungle .dll into your ableton plugin directory on a mac and expect it to work.
On the other side of the coin, there are a growing amount of mac-only plugins - and the freeware scene on it isn't completely dead.
