Imperial Wolf

Lot's of exciting things are happening in the world of Sabrepulse in the next few months!

Some of you may remember I moved down to (just outside) London late last year, since then i've found a new job, wrote a lot of new music and played some excellent shows.

I've done some networking in music-industry circles and all going well, it could turn into something larger that I expected. More news on that this year i'm sure - but a positive outcome from it has already appeared in getting my own night at the O2 Academy, Islington, one of the best known live venues in the city.

As far as I know, BEEP (click that link to buy tickets!) will be the first ever regular event to incorporate chiptune in the capital - and over the course of the year I have big plans for showcasing international chip musicians and integrating it with the Alliance tour.

New Tshirts are currently being printed & should be available at my bigcartel store next week (it was due to be this week but there's an issue with shirt stock) - the mockup looks great!

Release-wise - I'm planning on releasing the new full length at some point this year, plus a split ep with australian genius cTrix , and i'm currently putting the final touches to the soundtrack to an iphone/ipod touch game which will be released separately.

So there you go, lots to see, hear and do!

Backlight + Prosound Gameboy Mods

David (Lazerbeat) kindly gave me one of his nonfinite backlight kits in Tokyo last month, and in preparation for the Alliance tour I thought it would be a good idea to fit it to my clear dmg along with a pro-sound mod.

Here are the tutorials I used :

Nonfinite's official 1.5mm dual led backlight tutorial

Low Gain's prosound mod tutorial (with videos!)

and here is the finished product!

Hello Staten Park

An interesting little curio - the sample used at the start of 'Staten Park' (Chipbreak Wars) was lifted from a tongue-in-cheek audioblog on gaming for the blind.

The other day I rediscovered it! http://wayoftherodent.com/bonus/blind%20wipeout.htm

Could come in handy if I ever get around to doing a new version!

EDIT: Looks like the mp3 link is dead, gah!

Radio One Scotland Session

I've been invited to do a Radio 1 session + intervew on September 23rd. The program is Vic Galloway's show and will be broadcast at around midnight. You'll also be able to listen to it through the bbc iplayer and Vic's podcast that week.

Great timing to promote the Alliance Tour - listen out for some new tunes!

An interview

Forgotten i'd done this, might be of interest to someone out there - just don't read it in bad lighting conditions, the white on black has made my eyes go funny...

EDIT: It made my eyes go so funny I didn't post the link

News

The new layout is up over on myspace.com/sabrepulse - i've got extremely limited net access at home (iphone), and there's no firefox at work so i'm going to be unable to sort the content out till this weekend.

There is a new song up, i'm not planning on 'Star Romance' being part of the new record - it's just a nice poppy summer track!

Chiptune Alliance 2009 is shaping up, here's the touring lineup:

GOTO80
Fighter X
Sabrepulse
Henry Homesweet

Unicorn Kid (Scottish dates only)

and here are the current dates:

25 Sept - London
26 Sept - TBA
27 Sept - Bournemouth
28 Sept - TBA
29 Sept - Sheffield
30 Sept - TBA
1 Oct - TBA
2 Oct - TBA
3 Oct - Glasgow
4 Oct - Edinburgh

If you're a promoter or know a promoter (UK only) who would like to book any of the tba dates please email sabrepulseATgmail.com or chiptuneallianceATgmail.com

Thanks!

When you're down, you never think you'll be up again

A few of you might be aware of my disaterous gig in Brussels at the weekend, a complete embarassment and the whole thing was a writeoff.

I just want to apologise to those who specifically went out to see me and paid 10euros to be subjected to the worst performance i've ever given due to huge equipment failure and loads of other problems i'd rather just forget about.

I'm going to spend the next two weeks preparing extremely hard for Rock Herk Festival (this one's a free festival!) - to show you guys what a sabrepulse show is supposed to be like!

Back 2 Belgium

I'm playing in Brussels this coming saturday with some really talented guys - looking forward to this one!

Hopefully I won't be on at 4:40am like last weekend (you read that right). GOTO80 came up with the idea that belgians don't sleep and it's why all their shows go on till the sun comes up. I'm inclined to believe him.

Chiptune Alliance 2009

I'm starting to put together ideas for this year's tour, who's going to play, where we're going to play and how it's all going to happen.

If you're interested in helping out or know UK promoters who would be interested in hosting nights at the end of september please get in touch here/twitter or join the discussion on 8bitcollective here

I'm also considering changing the name to '8bit Alliance' as it seems broader, any thoughts?

Progress Update

So the mini-studio is starting to take shape - APC40 is still on order (apparently they won't restock till the 30th June!) and the rig runs everything very smoothly indeed!

Ableton 8 runs like a dream and i'm even starting to appreciate the new warping system. The KRK monitors have great mids and highs but i'm definately going to need a sub.

Fingers crossed lots of new material will come out of all this soon. In the meantime I should really invest in an actual camera instead of this bloody iphone!

Brain Damage Festival 2009

I'm playing in Kiev, Ukraine this weekend at this festival - http://www.last.fm/event/1052408

Someone remind me to buy earlplugs, I don't want my hearing trashed this summer ;)

Seattle!

Last saturday night at folklife festival, you can stream all the performances from Kids Get Hit by Buses, Fighter X, Trash80 and me here:

http://listen.nwfolklife.org/listen/festival/1/2009-05-23

There's a few tweaked tracks in there, but nothing y'all haven't heard before (maybe?)

Oh Lordy

And there you have it, someone got a Sabrepulse tattoo.

Let's start a justice-style photobook for them, who wants to do the next one?

Last.FM

I've noticed there's quite a sabrepulse following over on last.fm - does anyone have details of the person who runs it? I'd like to update some of the info and be able to get in touch with the people commenting on it.

Cheers!

Spinning Mp3's Again

Hold tight for another face melting installment of Aberdeen's hottest new clubcraze - ACID THUNDER! Featuring the aaamazing MINI KLAUS (I mean it, she plays bangin italo), resident henchmen BONES N’ MONEY, PHAT TOM repping the 90's hiphop and me doing spinbacks and hosting a 50 genre dance off.

It's going to be beyond silly. Verging on the slightly ridiculous, be there.

2 New Dates

4th July - La Tentation - Brussels, Belgium

20th August - The Ruby Lounge - Manchester, UK

More details, flyers and all that gubbins as I get them. As always, all my dates go up on myspace.com/sabrepulse as soon as they're confirmed.
